Colonia Fara : atelier semestriel Transformation

February 2015 to June 2015

Biannual workshop led by Carlo Parmiggiani assisted by Malak Mekbhout

The project workshop "Transformation" works this semester on a particular habitat, Summer Camp: a place of collective housing for a young audience. The case study concerns a former colony built in the '30s in Chiavari, in the Gulf of Genoa. After a program sponsored by the Italian fascist party, it nevertheless involved the rationalist architecture heritage of inter-war and partly reflects the autocratic administration of the broader issue of housing and social issues thereto. Abandoned for twenty years, the colony Fara is for some months under renovation and will house a hotel program and housing for sale.

The objective of the workshop was not to follow this new program, but to re-examine the original program (Summer Camp) to transpose the contemporary fashion and browse the scale relationships between interior spaces, the architecture and landscape.
Students propose a principle of development for the whole building and focus on the rooms device with a work on ergonomics introducing wide subject and furniture.
