These techniques enable the shaping of difficult materials (carbide, ceramic, superalloys, etc.), with requirements for micrometric precision and surface states of a high-quality or functional character. The research and innovation is at the level of the fine understanding of the interactions of these techniques with the material and the use of sophisticated measurement equipment.
Dimensional metrology, revisited with up-to-date equipment, can perform high precision 3D measurement and qualification of surface states, which are an essential issue for mechanical parts with high added-value.
The complete chain of reverse engineering is provided through various means of 3D scanning (mechanical, structured light, laser triangulation, laser flight time and x-ray tomography) as well as specialist software. Proficiency in this specialist software enables 3D inspection of an existing complex part or the CAD reconstruction of a new product from a physical mock-up.
