Work on the Bibliothèque de la Cité library began on 1 August and will continue until spring 2015. The current exhibition hall will reopen to the public on 20 September 2014 with a digital library space.
The space, to be known as ‘Labo Cité’, will be inaugurated on the evening of Friday 19 September with a talk by the writer, journalist and member of the Académie Goncourt, Pierre Assouline, on the topic Mutations of the reader.
With scenography by HEAD Geneva’s Interior Architecture and Visual Communication faculties, Labo Cité will be a multi-purpose space equipped with e-readers, digital tablets and Internet workstations that is accessible to all, whether or not they are familiar with the new technologies. This will provide an opportunity to work closely with the public by offering them new ways of access to knowledge and information, training, video games, lectures, debates and digital creation workshops.
+A place for discovery, sharing and also experimentation that will enable us, through feedback from the public, to design a future Bibliothèque de la Cité that will combine physical and online services – a necessarily hybrid role for librarians, who must provide local services in the heart of the city and at the same time be linked to the world-wide web.
