The reuse of building materials and components can make a significant contribution to reducing CO2 emissions in construction. But while everyone is talking about it, few are practising it! Reuse in Switzerland is currently limited to exploratory projects, based on artisanal methods.
The research hypothesis of the REMCO research project, financed by the HES-SO and conducted by HEPIA (see partners below) is that the wider deployment of reuse faces major obstacles in terms of logistics and legal issues, particularly guarantees.
REMCO aims to establish an inventory of the initiatives and solutions implemented in the field of reuse in French-speaking Switzerland over the last 5 years, as well as the drivers and obstacles that have characterised them.
As such, the project will contribute to building a knowledge base on the subject and will help to bring out viable technical, economic and legal solutions for reuse in the construction industry.
