Areas of expertise

A major player in the energy transition, the Buildings and Energy group is at the cutting-edge of the knowledge and application of new technologies and works in various contexts:

  • Research projects financed by public or private funds
  • Performance of expert appraisals under various mandates
  • Training, particularly the HES bachelor's degree curriculum in Mechanical Engineering, Microengineering and Energy and Building Technology, as well as vocational training intended for professionals

Key skills

Energy saving, energy efficiency, integration of renewable energies in the built environment (current or future) technical installations, life-cycle analysis, natural and artificial lighting, buildings acoustics and home automation, as well as the conversion and storage of electrical energy, are at the core of the group's activities.

  • Measurement and energy monitoring (consumption of electrical or thermal energy, water consumption, specific monitoring and diagnostics of installations, diagnostics by infrared imaging)
  • Design, characterisation and optimisation of thermal and photovoltaic solar panels
  • Implementation and installation of innovative energy concepts and optimisation of installations
  • Application of standards relative to energy in buildings
  • Tools and calculation methods, digital simulations and analysis
  • Storage and energy conversion
