The validation of precipitation data is a crucial effort to highlight the work of the Hydrometry Sector in ensuring data quality. The cantonal rain gauges undergo weekly maintenance, a quantitative check using a totalizing rain gauge, a quarterly quantitative inspection, an in-situ verification twice a year, and a full calibration in the workshop every three years. These procedures ensure compliance with the UNI EN 17277:2020 standard for «Classe A» rain gauges, which requires a measurement error of less than 3% for precipitation intensities up to 300 mm/h.
This mandate includes all necessary services for the validation of precipitation data from the past year by a hydrologist specialized in hydrometry, the drafting of the technical report, and the formatting of the data series. These data will be transmitted to the Services Industriels de Genève and serve as input for their primary wastewater drainage network flow model, and subsequently to MétéoSuisse, which will use them to assess Swiss climatology and, if necessary, refine the data from federal stations.
