Assessment of the presence intensity of Lynx on the Salève massif.
The lynx is currently well present in the Swiss Alps and Jura and these populations show a slight extension outside the existing core areas, especially in Haute-Savoie. The Salève massif, located between the Alps and the Jura, has extensive forest areas favourable to the lynx, as well as large numbers of potential prey. In the last decade, occasional observations of the lynx have been made almost every year. However, it is not established whether one or more individuals could have established themselves in a sustainable manner. The aim of the project is to assess the presence and distribution of the lynx in the massif. This will be achieved through photographic traps arranged according to a framework used routinely by KORA in Switzerland. This method also allows for an inventory and monitoring of other medium and large mammals.
