Calibration of a method for counting wild boar by capture-mark-recapture
The wild boar is closely linked to human activities as a game species appreciated by hunters, but also by agricultural damage. Their populations have been increasing strongly and the requirement to manage this species is becoming increasingly pressing. The problem in achieving appropriate management is the great difficulty of assessing population size and distribution, which is vital to the development of management plans. We propose a new method of population assessment. This method must be calibrated to assess its suitability. The ultimate goal is to offer managers, both in Switzerland and abroad, a precise and easily applicable method.
