Keeping the elderly at home, largely supported by public policy, aims to preserve the quality of life of the elderly, despite the growing risk of health problems inherent in advancing age. Today, there are a significant number of elderly people living in homes that are not fully adapted to a decrease in mobility or the sensory capabilities inherent in advancing age and which hinder the maintenance of independence in everyday activities. The Habitat Seniors Project (ADGA - Adaptation of Housing for the elderly) aims to adapt existing housing to promote the autonomy of the elderly, improve quality of life and reduce health risks, including falls.
This project is now supported by the Leenaards Foundation and the specialised college of higher education of Western Switzerland in Geneva for its scientific part, which focuses on developing a catalogue of adaptations and evaluating the effects of these adaptations on the health and quality of life of the inhabitants benefiting from them.
