The social changes affecting Swiss funeral practices are tending to free up cemetery grounds and diversify burial methods with a growing emphasis on ecological approaches.
Many cemeteries are still very mineral, even though they are potentially valuable open spaces for tree planting. As part of the green, blue and brown fabric of the landscape, they are key components of the climate plans of cities, towns and cantons.
This study aims to accompany these inevitable transformations by exploring how the requalification of current and future cemeteries can be part of a sustainable ecological and social transition, while respecting funeral practices and the memory of the dead.
