The development of the solar cadastre is part of the G2 Solaire project (January 2019 to April 2022) supported by the INTERREG V France-Switzerland program and institutional and financial partners active in the region.
The objective of the G2 Solaire project is, through the solar cadastre, to intensify the use of solar energy in the Greater Geneva area, to generate economic activities around the solar sector, and to contribute in fine to achieving the objectives of energy transition in a context of urban densification. The solar cadastre that is produced offers an effective solar energy potential on the agglomeration taking into account the incident solar irradiation on the territory.
Beyond the solar cadastre, the G2 Solaire project has allowed to develop a cross vision on the legal and economic framework conditions of the solar market between France and Switzerland, to inform, sensitize and train the different actors to solar energy, to valorize the experience feedback and to trigger collective initiatives (solar cooperatives in the French Genevois).
The solar cadastre is materialized through a web platform that allows to simulate the potential of self-consumption of solar energy produced on the roofs of each building in the Greater Geneva area and to provide the owners with the main technical and economic data of the potential. The maintenance and the development of the interface is done in a continuous way and will integrate new functionalities, like soon the solar potential in facades (see VALES project).
