The Canton of Valais has drawn up a number of landscape studies on a cantonal scale (sheets of the Plan Directeur cantonal PDc, Conception Paysage cantonale du Valais CPc). With the Projets-modèles paysage (PMP) programme, which is part of the implementation of the CPc, it wishes to move to the micro scale and show, with guided examples, how the landscape can be developed in a qualitative way. Based on the pilot project to reorganise the vineyards in the commune of Savièse, and with a view to objective 3 of the CPc «to care for the fringes between the various major landscapes», the Service du développement territorial (SDT), in collaboration with the Service des forêts, de la nature et du paysage (SFNP) and the Service cantonal de l'agriculture (SCA), is carrying out an in-depth study of the fringes between the built-up area and the vineyards, a fundamental and necessary aspect for the quality of the landscape of the wine-growing hillsides and the quality of life on the fringes.
The aim of the study is to identify the different types of fringe in the Savièse commune and to propose a catalogue of tools to raise awareness and communicate about the fringe, a means of enhancing the natural and cultural heritage. It will also serve as an implementation aid for local planning, for the use of local authorities, professionals and residents.
