The initial idea of Eyecap', validated by the feasibility study carried out by HEPIA, was to add technology to a swimming cap that would allow swimmers to receive an alert when approaching the edge of the pool or another obstacle. This swimming cap will enable visually impaired or blind people to swim safely and independently.
This project is being carried out in collaboration with a team from HEPIA's CoRES research group, which, thanks to Innosuisse funding, has evaluated obstacle detection techniques. Several versions were identified.
The tags will be entirely developed and custom-made at HEPIA's ALPEES laboratory, as will the RFID reader and an antenna integrated into the flag line above the pools. An electronic card integrated into the cap will receive the alert signal from the RFID reader and transmit it in the form of vibration and/or sound to the swimmer.
