The aim of this Innosuisse project is to produce a demonstration of the conversion of electric/pneumatic and pneumatic/electric energy intended for the storage of energy in the form of compressed air in sub-lake or sub-sea hydrostatic reservoirs. To be effective, it is essential that the compression and expansion of the gas is as close as possible to an isothermal cycle, which represents a major engineering challenge. Based on a co-rotating turbine, we have developed a technology that will make it possible to carry out these isothermal or quasi-isothermal transformations.
