The decline in Apis mellifera colonies between 1970 and 2010, causing a 60% loss of bees in Europe and the USA, is described as a syndrome called Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). It is thought to be linked to multiple synergistic factors, including the parasitic mite Varroa destructor. In addition, current treatments can lead to chemical contamination of hive products and the development of resistance in the mite.
The objective of the project is to develop a sustainable, biological and inexpensive treatment against Varroa destructor using acaricidal fungal strains.
