Context
Originally, the Arve was a braided river and its bed extended over large widths of around 100-250 m. Today, only very short stretches still have the characteristics of a braided or alternating bed. This situation is the result of massive extraction of materials and the construction of various infrastructures (roads, railways, motorways) on its embankment. The consequences of all this resulted in the shrinking of the space dedicated to the watercourse and its alluvial forest.
Objectives
The aim of this mission is to build a concerted and sustainable development project for the Arve Valley between the communes of Sallanches and Passy in Haute Savoie. This project is deliberately conducted from a transdisciplinary perspective: landscape, architecture, urban planning, ecology, hydrology and plant engineering.
The objective is to build the premises of a strong, federative and innovative project, which will have to respond to different imperatives: landscape enhancement of the site, restoration of the natural banks, appropriation of the river by the local users, development of tourism, creation of urban links, development of soft mobility, better land use, biological continuity, etc.
The mission should result in an initial landscape and urban vision, fueled by multiple exchanges between the various project partners who wish to be associated with this ambitious and collective approach.
The aim is to build a guiding vision reversing the current trend, by showing how the Arve can be a tangible asset for the territory and a real lever for concerted development. A desirable image to make the players want to enter a phase of broad consultation.
