Energy systems laboratory

Energy systems laboratory

The laboratory is a centre for teaching and research related to energies and conversion technologies.

Focused on the sustainable engineering of energy systems, renewable energies and industrial processes, its mission is to develop and test intelligent solutions that contribute to the transition towards efficient energy technologies that release little carbon, in the sectors of building, services and industry.

The laboratory carries out theoretical and experimental studies on energy conversion systems and technical installations with an emphasis on renewable energies. It provides its skills in the following areas:

  • Measurement and calibration of sensors for technical energy readings, such as temperature, humidity, pressure, loss of load, heat transfer coefficient, U coefficient, flow, heat flow
  • Study on the behaviour and performance of energy installations, such as ventilation installation, heat pump
  • Energy integration, such as study on the integration of systems, processes and renewable energies with the aim of optimising energy efficiency
  • Research and development in energy systems, such as thermal networks, anergy and two-phase, natural cooling fluids
  • Expert appraisals, such as on heat pumps, pumps
Équipement(s):

The laboratory has all instruments and measurement sensors necessary to the energy characterisation of a system or an installation:

  • Absolute and differential pressure sensors (measurement of pressure and loss of load)
  • Flow meters (measurement of flow)
  • Thermocouples (measurement of temperature)
  • Flow meters (measurement of heat flows)
  • Infrared camera

It also has various test benches for measuring the behaviour and performance of machines/components of energy technology, including fluids.

It also has a unit for production of cold and hot water as well as an electric power supply reserve to supply the equipment to be tested.
