Materials, Architecture, Sustainability, Space group

The Materials, Architecture, Sustainability, Space (MADE) group concentrates its research and teaching on space-materials as the core of the durability of an architectural project.

Space which responds to the requirements for living, working and leisure of contemporary and future society, favouring programmatic diversity and seeking new arrangements for the common use and sharing of places, and synergies between various functions and users.

Material that improves the space and its environment, which contributes to its quality and to the well-being of users, that saves resources, is recycled or recyclable, efficient from an energy point of view, related to the context that generated it.

The group develops a cultural, sensitive and multidisciplinary approach to the problems of the domain of expertise.

Research and mandates for the provision of services:

  • Development of innovative interdisciplinary approaches to dealing with complex questions related to new multi-functional and inter-generational buildings and those related to the structure-material-space of the existing vernacular and industrial heritage in particular;
  • Research and experimentation in new forms of use of ecological materials, recycling of construction materials and solid construction systems;
  • Support to contracting authorities in establishing specifications for sustainable buildings from the design phase of the project until its completion;
  • Support to contracting authorities in the design and development of buildings incorporating programmatic and social diversity.
