The Master of Science in Health Sciences with specialisations (MScSa) is jointly offered by the HES-SO and the University of Lausanne (UNIL). It provides second-cycle training for healthcare professionals from the following degree programmes: Occupational Therapy, Nutrition and Dietetics, Physiotherapy, Midwifery, and Medical Radiology Technology. The programme can be undertaken on a full-time or part-time basis.

This innovative and unique interprofessional programme in Switzerland enables the development and deepening of both shared knowledge across these five professions and discipline-specific expertise.

In light of the many challenges facing the healthcare sector, health professionals must demonstrate advanced competencies. In this context, the MScSa emphasises:

  • The development of interprofessional competencies and the promotion of collaboration between the various professions;
  • The transfer of knowledge, the promotion and implementation of evidence-based practices;
  • The strengthening of professional leadership, critical analysis skills, and the ability to take a stance;
  • A deep understanding of the socio-health context and the development of innovative practices.

Upon completion of the programme, graduates will be able to take on key responsibilities within the healthcare system by promoting and overseeing high-quality, efficient, and coordinated interventions.

The MScSa is a modular programme awarding 90 ECTS credits and may be pursued full-time or part-time. It comprises:

  • Shared modules (30 ECTS)

  • Specialisation-specific modules (30 ECTS)

  • A Master’s thesis (30 ECTS), which involves conducting a research project related to the chosen specialisation or to interprofessional collaboration.

Certain courses are shared with the Master of Science in Nursing (MScSI), which is also jointly offered by UNIL and HES-SO.

Courses are held on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays for full-time study, and over two days per week for part-time study. The main language of instruction is French; strong writing skills in French are essential (C1 level recommended). Reading materials require proficiency in English (B2 level recommended).

Applications are submitted exclusively online via the HES-SO website.
