Little research has focused on how the combination of several lifestyle factors affects mental health. In a world grappling with an escalating prevalence of anxiety and depression, such data could improve the effectiveness of interventions aimed at reducing these psychological disorders.
The Geneva School of Health Sciences is collaborating with School of Public Health, Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences, Yazd, Iran to assess the cumulative effect of several lifestyle behaviours on anxiety and depression in adults. Data from two cohort studies will be used: Yazd Health Study in Iran (since 2014, 10,100 participants) and CoLaus|PsyCoLaus (since 2003, 6,700 participants) in Switzerland. A healthy lifestyle score will be established on the basis of several factors: dietary patterns, smoking habits, physical activity, sleep quality, etc. Through this innovative lens, we will examine the association between the healthy lifestyle score and anxiety/depression will be examined.
Our findings will provide evidence-based lifestyle recommendations to reduce the risk of anxiety and depression in the adult population.
