La Haute Ecole de Santé de Genève organise les 5 et 6 avril 2023 un cours-atelier doctoral pour l'école de printemps en santé globale organisée par l'ISG et le Pr. Antoine Flahault.

The role of fertility and menstrual cycle tracking apps in improving menstrual health - Online conference - Dr Laura Symul
Wednesday 5th April 2023 16h30 – 17h30
Fertility and menstrual cycle tracking apps are among the most used health apps: millions of women use them around the globe. We will discuss how these apps can be used to phenotype hormonal-related symptoms, how they can be deployed in prospective studies, and how they could accelerate PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) diagnosis. We will discuss related challenges, ranging from those arising in the statistical analyses of menstrual cycle app data to those related to data privacy and automated diagnosis. Bio: Laura Symul obtained her Ph.D. in computational biology from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland, where she studied the molecular regulation of the circadian clock. As a postdoctoral fellow, her research focuses on women's and menstrual health. This includes research on fertility, cycle-related symptoms, and drivers of changes in vaginal microbiota communities. She analyses self-tracked data from phone apps and clinical multi-omics data, applying and developing multi-table integration methods.

Haplocare, a global community to improve the wellbeing of mothers during perinatality

Online conference - Dr Sonali Quantius
Thursday 6th April 2023 10h – 11h
Depression and anxiety are the most common mental health issues experienced by women during the pregnancy and post-partum (‘the perinatal’) period but there remains a huge gap in the screening, diagnosis and access to timely care in Switzerland and worldwide. The reality is that healthcare systems cannot meet existing (or future) demands for face-to-face psychological therapy, or the quality of psychological care in terms of timeliness or accessibility that has been recommended for pregnant and postpartum women. Perinatal depression poses unique symptoms and situations and clinical presentations (e.g. fears of childbirth; intrusive thoughts of harm to baby, hormonal imbalance etc.) that general mental health apps do not address. HaploCare is addressing the above issues by a web-based platform that will enables pregnant and postpartum women to securely track their mental health and if their scores indicate mild to moderate depression/anxiety, providing access to self-care, peer support, and professional support. At the same time, healthcare professionals will be able to access the platform to have access to best practices and resources for their patients. Bio: Sonali studied at IIT, Bombay, moved to Zurich where she received her PhD from University Hospital Zurich and then conducted postdoctoral research at ETH, Zurich. She then entered the pharmaceutical world by joining Eli Lily and the next 12 years saw her move to four countries (Singapore, USA, Sweden and the UK) and use computational biology in the domains of metabolic, genetics and now famous mRNA research. She is the founder of HaploCare: a digital app that can screen and offer treatment for women experiencing depression and anxiety during pregnancy and postpartum. They are currently testing the app in a pilot study at NIMHANS, Bengaluru, India and plan to expand to the University Hospital Zürich in Switzerland. She is also working with researchers in Canada and New Zealand to make this digital solution available there.
