Master of Science in Nursing

The University of Lausanne (UNIL) and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland (HES-SO) jointly offer a Master of Science in Nursing (MScSI). This programme aims to train future graduates to take on expert roles in order to optimise care quality, enhance patient safety, and ensure the efficient use of resources.

The Master’s programme is structured into modules comprising various forms of teaching, including theoretical lectures, seminars, and courses that involve close collaboration with clinical settings.

The curriculum includes six modules of compulsory courses, amounting to a total of 50 ECTS credits. A seventh module offers elective courses worth 10 ECTS credits. The eighth module consists of the Master’s thesis, worth 30 ECTS credits.

The MScSI enables the acquisition of skills in the following four areas: Foundations of the nursing discipline and advanced nursing practice, Specialised direct clinical practice with patients, their families and relatives in complex care situations, Consultation, coaching, guidance and leadership, Research and evidence-based practice.

The Master's programme is composed of courses organised into modules. Teaching formats include lectures,
seminars or practical training sessions.

The first six modules consist of compulsory courses corresponding to a total of 50 ECTS credits.
A seventh module offers elective courses worth 10 ECTS credits. Finally, the eighth module involves the completion of a Master's thesis worth 30 ECTS credits.
