Financial aid
Are you experiencing financial difficulties during your studies? The HES-SO Genève offers several forms of support depending on your situation, all administered by the University of Geneva’s Financial Aid Service under an agreement between the two institutions: monthly scholarships, emergency and complementary mobility assistance, specific nursing scholarships, and referrals to private funds.
For monthly grants from private funds or from the HES-SO Genève, nursing scholarships, and mobility assistance, first check your eligibility for cantonal and state financial aid. Eligibility for these is a prerequisite.

The Financial Aid Service at the University of Geneva processes all your applications, including those from private funds, with the exception of the Ehrhardt-Hornung Foundation.

Cantonal and State Financial Aid
For monthly scholarships, complementary mobility assistance, nursing scholarships, and grants from private funds, cantonal and state financial aid is the mandatory starting point. One-time emergency grants are an exception. Applications are submitted through a separate channel from the University of Geneva’s Financial Aid Service.
- Cantonal Grants
- Career Change Scholarships
- Annual Training Voucher
Check your eligibility for a cantonal grant under the Law on Student Grants and Loans (LBPE) of your home canton. Emergency assistance is an exception to this step.
In Geneva, contact the Service des bourses et prêts d’études (SPBE) and submit your application exclusively online, no earlier than the summer before the start of the academic year and no later than six months after the start of the program.
Are you starting a career change or a second degree program? Check whether you meet the eligibility requirements for career change grants under the Law on Student Grants and Loans (LBPE).
If you are not eligible, the Office of Student Affairs (etu.hes@hesge.ch) will inform you of the available alternatives.
As an HES student, you may be eligible to receive up to CHF 750 to fund continuing education, subject to certain conditions. The annual training voucher covers all or parts of a course lasting at least 40 hours. Review the eligibility requirements and application process.
