David Cross

As an artist, David Cross began collaborating with Matthew Cornford while studying at Saint Martin’s School of Art in 1987 and graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1991. Their work was exhibited internationally. Perceiving a conflict between his internationalism and his environmentalism, he stopped using jet travel in 2005.

He is a Reader in Fine Art at the University of the Arts, London. In 2012, in homage to the Artist Placement Group, he designated his employment at UAL as an artist’s placement, proposing that UAL switch to an ethical bank. In 2015, he initiated and ran a campaign with students to persuade UAL to divest from fossil fuels.

Since 2019, he has advocated that UAL integrates decarbonization with decolonisation as a start towards regenerative ecology and restorative social justice.
