Henrique Loja

Henrique Loja’s artistic practice is informed by a conceptual and material research activity, that through the media of sculpture, video, painting and installation pays attention to the current state of general crisis and the way these events echo in the individual self, intimate and loving relationships. He is interested in correlating eco-fictions, speculative futurologies, sustainable economics and digital culture with auto-biography and coming-of-age narratives. His practice appears in a non-hierarchical format in which its boundless qualities underline a sense of conviviality between works. Henrique Loja (Lagos, Portugal, 1992) is an artist based in Geneva, Switzerland. He holds an MFA in Contemporary Art Practices - Work.Master from HEAD – Genève in 2020. He was finalist for the Novo Banco Revelação Prize 2017 at Museu Serralves (Oporto, PT). Recent exhibitions include Wie zu Hause, Wo ich nicht bin, Centre d'Art Contemporain Genève, (Geneva, CH, 2020) Fridges are not frigid, Archivio Conz (Berlin, DE, 2019), Nano Revolutions, Espacio de Arte Contemporaneo (Montevideo, UY, 2019); and Exercises in Futurology, Galerias Municipais de Lisboa - Quadrum (Lisbon, PT, 2016). He also co-founded the art space and program Supermala! together with Sofia Montanha, having hosted events in Vienna, Geneva, Madrid and Lisbon.
