Alexandros Kioupkiolis

Alexandros Kioupkiolis is Professor of Contemporary Political Theory at Aristotle University, School of Political Sciences, Thessaloniki, Greece. His research interests are focused on radical democracy, the commons, social movements, democratic transformation, and the philosophy of freedom. He is the author of Freedom after the Critique of Foundations: Marx, Liberalism and Agonistic Autonomy (Palgrave-Macmillan, 2012), Τhe Common and Counter-Hegemonic Politics (Edinburgh University Press, 2019), and Common Hegemony, Populism, and the New Municipalism: Democratic Alter-Politics and Transformative Strategies (Routledge, 2022). He is the editor, with Giorgos Katsambekis, of The Populist Radical Left in Europe (Routledge, 2019) and Radical Democracy and Collective Movements Today: The Biopolitics of the Multitude versus the Hegemony of the People (Ashgate, 2014), and is the author of numerous articles, including “Left Populism, Commons and Radical Democracy: Counter-Hegemonic Alliances in Our Times” (in Contemporary Political Theory, 2024) and “Digital Commons, the Political and Social Change: Towards an Integrated Strategy of Counter-Hegemony Furthering the Commons” (in Ephemera, 2022).
