USM x HEAD: A breathing grid at Designer's Saturday 2016

Saturday 5 November 2016 to Sunday 6 November 2016

Mühlehof/Depot, Langenthal.

USM Haller furnitures, designed for over 40 years and now exported to over 40 countries, are an iconic brand in Swiss design. USM Haller design is brilliant, original and universal: a minimum number of parts carefully designed, with maximum possible flexibility. The compositions and adaptations are intended to produce a variety of settings tailored to each client.

For design students, the perfect modularity of USM is not only a reference, but a wonderful field of play and creative experimentation in search of their own design philosophy.

As part of the important event Designers' Saturdays, which is held every two years in Langenthal (5-6.11.2016) on the real production sites and production of major brands of Swiss design, USM asked HEAD–Genève to realize an installation for his stand.

16 students in Interior Architecture bachelor worked during the summer at a workshop led by Jan Geipel, Dean and Professor of Interior Architecture, and Gaspar Reverdin, former assistant and member of the collectif Galta. In the workshop, students were available as two modular elements, that is to say, the essence and the genetic DNA USM: spheres and pipes of different lengths, in total more than 2000 kilograms of equipment. A sporting challenge, but exciting concept: reinterpret differently, poetically , playfully and even organically, the USM mark for visitors to the Designers' Saturdays.

The staging of the Designers' Saturdays 2016 is the second collaboration between USM and HEAD-Genève, after the Design Days in Geneva in 2015. For student-e-s, this kind of critical exchanges is a valuable collaboration. Especially if the ideas are realized not only on paper or on screen, but by a real achievement in scale 1: 1, with a team of achievement and professional actors.

We invite you to discover HEAD–Genève's work from Saturday, November 5th!
