Watchmaking Design is an optional honours course included in HEAD – Genève’s Product / Jewellery and Accessory Design programme, as part of a Bachelors (3 years) + Masters (2 years) degree. It includes lectures dedicated to watchmaking design and seeks to raise the awareness of students to marketing challenges, strategies, trends and heritage issues relating to the watchmaking industry. The course opens up a specific career path within the Product / Jewellery and Accessory Design programme and grooms designers to work in the field of watchmaking.

The Watchmaking course is headed by watchmaking designer and Professor of Watchmaking and Industrial and Luxury Products Design Marco Borraccino, who has been teaching and developing specialised watchmaking courses at HEAD – Genève since 2009. He is surrounded by a team of professionals from the watchmaking industry as well as renowned national and international expert lecturers.

The Watchmaking programme includes the following courses:

Watchmaking manufacture workshop
Watch design workshop
Projects in association with Watchmaking brands
History of Watchmaking (in association with FHH)
Marketing of Luxury and Watchmaking Products
Analysis of the world of brands
Watchmaking Design
Knowledge of watchmaking products
Watchmaking complications (in association with HEPIA)
Packaging design and product environment
Advanced 2D design (Adobe Suite)
Advanced 3D modelling and rendering
Monitoring of BA and MA diploma projects by in-house and external experts

The course also includes a conference cycle (‘Les Midi Horlogers’) with a number of professional lecturers – designers, creators, brand managers, creative directors, researchers, subcontractors, trademark specialists and specialised journalists – who present their work and provide their own perspective on various issues relating to the field of watchmaking.
In order to guarantee the highest quality and in line with the requirements of the field, a committed Scientific Committee consisting of the following independent experts who represent the core fields of the watchmaking industry, validates the strategic options of the programme.
