Vernissage

Residency artist CERCCO, Stéphanie Baechler shoes her work at Art space Wallriss.

She shows the results of works made in our workshops throughout her 3 Workspace months at CERCCO.

For decades, fashion has lost all functional relationships to the female body and only exists as a folding and unfolding of the self. Practicality and wearability are covered by casuals while eroticism has been replaced by fetishisation and exploitation of the naked body. We are left with status, confidence and story-telling as ornaments of the self, and with the empty suggestion of a body beneath the folds.

The clay bodies are reduced in size in the kiln – the transformation away from the body is irreversible: they are no longer wearable and can only be seen as objects. There is no use, nor need, to bring them back into fashion again. The experience would be a different matter altogether.
