The specialised orchestral conducting course is designed for a small number of students who intend to conduct professional ensembles, whether permanent (symphony orchestras, chamber orchestras, operas, specialised ensembles) or ad hoc.
Orchestral and keyboard instrument skills (instrumental or vocal know-how, stylistic skills and artistic sensibility), a wide-ranging artistic culture (including in the opera and oratorio repertoires) and score-reading skills are required. Psychological skills and a degree of personal authority are also essential in order to conduct an ensemble, as well as administrative skills, particularly when organising and managing rehearsals.
