Historical singing
The Bachelor of Arts course with main discipline in historical singing is provided by the Early Music department. It covers the most varied aspects of professional training for young singers, including vocal coaching, mediaeval ensembles and madrigalist ensembles, phonetics and diction, body classes, opera performance and stage work. Students also receive specialised training in early music, including classes in harpsichord, basso continuo, ornamentation, rhetorics, history of early music, Gregorian chant, solmisation, early dance and iconography. Regular teaching is backed up by numerous specific classes and master classes. Historical opera staging practices, in partnership with major French-language and other institutions and foundations, are one of the HEM leading research fields.
