FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The HEM does not have a hall of residence, but its students can make use of various types of student accommodation, including the Foyer Champel, Foyer Dassier and the Foyer Dumas. The geloge foundation offers several accomodations to students from hautes écoles in Geneva, including the HEM : www.geloge.ch

Residents of Switzerland must normally have Swiss health insurance. However, the health insurance department may waive this requirement for students with insurance in their own country, provided that their insurer undertakes in writing to cover the costs of medical care received in Switzerland. The relevant form can be obtained from the Bureau Universitaire d’Information Sociale (University Social Information Office).
The HEM does not provide insurance cover, but students can apply to the Pôle Santé Social (Social Health Centre) at the University of Geneva http://www.unige.ch/buis/
Students should expect to spend about 1400 to 1900 Swiss francs a month.
With prior permission from Geneva’s Office cantonal de la population (Cantonal Population Office), students can work for up to 15 hours a week. Employers must submit an application (demande d’activité accessoire) to the Office cantonal de la population.
Only theoretical courses and certain practical disciplines such as piano as a secondary instrument are recognised as equivalent. Ensemble music (orchestra and chamber music) courses are not recognised. Students must submit a written application exclusively with the ad hoc form.
STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION OF THE "haute école de musique de Genève"
The students of the HEM are federated in an association, ADEHEM, which can be registered for an annual fee. Its purpose is to defend - as far as possible - the students' interests with the management. The Committee is elected by the students each year.
