Research & Development
Since 2004 the HEM has initiated some forty applied research projects on topics in most of the fields of artistic practice: creation and new technologies, historically informed performance, art and science, intercultural dialogue, music teaching, etc..
The projects, which are conducted by teachers at the university, make an original contribution to the advancement of knowledge about music practice. The research findings are systematically published through specific channels (digital media, concert conferences and so on).
Over the years, projects conducted at the "Haute école de musique Genève – Neuchâtel" have led to numerous partnerships in Switzerland (with the Universities of Geneva, Fribourg and Bern, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, the Swiss National Sound Archives, the Institute of Ethnology in Neuchâtel and the Geneva Competition) and around the world (with McGill University and the University of Montreal in Canada, the Beijing and Shanghai conservatories in China, the Institut de recherche et coordination acoustique/musique (IRCAM), the Fondation Royaumont, the Opéra national de Paris and Paris-Sorbonne University in France, the Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata in India and the Centro Ricerche Musicali in Rome in Italy).
The Institut de recherche en musique et arts de la scène (IRMAS), which includes the HEM, the Lausanne University of Music (HEMU) and La Manufacture (the University of Theatre in Western Switzerland), is housed at the "Haute école de musique Genève – Neuchâtel.
