The department is a teaching, creation and experimentation centre for composition and mixed acoustic and electroacoustic composition. It includes the Electroacoustical center (CME), the university’s resource centre for music technology, sound recording and computer-assisted composition, which works closely with similar centres such as IRCAM. It is also a centre of excellence in music theory, its expertise focusing on the Western musical idiom but also extending to non-European traditions.
The main disciplines are composition, mixed acoustic and electroacoustic composition, and music theory.
