Journey to Neojiba
The HEM – Haute école de musique – of Geneva has been collaborating for several years with NEOJIBA (Bahia State Training Centre for Youth and Children's Orchestras) by commissioning students in Master's degree courses in pedagogy to carry out pedagogical internships in Salvador de Bahia.
NEOJIBA is defined as follows: We believe that artistic practice is a means of human development that should be within everyone's reach. Our objective is to promote the development and social integration of children, adolescents and young people in vulnerable situations through collective teaching and musical practice. The NEOJIBA program is a public policy built with the participation of society, the Bahia State Government and partner companies.
This film, Journey to Neojiba, was made in August 2018. Five students who have been dedicated teachers for the project tell of their experience in Salvador de Bahia, their encounter with these often disadvantaged young Brazilians and their feelings about teaching and music as a universal language.
