HEM Orchestra and Chamber Choir

First performed on September 27, 1958 in the great hall of the Scuola di San Rocco during the 21st Venice International Festival of Contemporary Music, with Igor Stravinsky conducting, Threni id est Lamentationes Jeremiae prophetae created the event. Stravinsky was inspired by pieces of poetry from Jeremiah's Lamentations and composed a work of great austerity and simplicity, in which religious inspiration plays an important role. The programme also includes pieces for a cappella choir and sackbut ensemble from the 16th and 17th centuries.
