Below are the answers to the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) about admission to "Haute école de musique Genève – Neuchâtel" courses. Further information can be obtained from the study office: admission.hem@hesge.ch.
Can I apply for two different courses ? If so, do I have to pay the admission fee twice?
Applicants can take two admission examinations, but since it is not normally possible to take two courses at the same time, the fee only has to be paid once.
How are applicants informed of the results of the admission examinations?
The results of the first test will be e-mailed to applicants a few days after the examination. After a second test (if required) and a decision by the admissions board, successful applicants will be sent a second e-mail. Potentially successful applicants will be sent a second e-mail informing them that they will be kept on a waiting list and will be contacted if a place comes free.
How long can I remain on the waiting list?
The waiting list will be maintained until the end of the first semester. Waiting-list applicants who are finally admitted to the course will be sent an e-mail by the administrative office.
Can I bring my own accompaniest to the admission examination?
No. To ensure fairness, only the designated accompanist may accompany applicants during the admission examination. Applicants will be sent the accompanist’s contact details along with the invitation to attend the examination.
Do I have to attend the admission examinations in person, or can I send a video instead?
Applicants must attend the admission examinations in person.
I need a visa to take the admission examinations in Geneva. What is the required prodecure?
Once the application documents have been submitted, applicants must apply for a visa by sending an e-mail to admission.hem@hesge.ch.They are advised to do this as soon as possible, for the procedure may take some time.
What does the course cost?
The fee for Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts courses is 500 Swiss francs per semester, plus an enrolment fee of 150 Swiss francs (only in the first year of a new course) and a fee of 15 Swiss francs for membership of the students’ association.
